Art of Socrates / Socrates Sapounas

Socrates Sapounas (Art of Socrates) is a self-taught artist from Athens, Greece.

He specializes in surrealist paintings, poems and comics. Through his art he explores themes of otherness, identity loss and transformation. He produces dreamlike stories that reflect on the inner conflicts, pleasures, delusions and triumphs of everyday life.

Eerie, provocative and original, his artworks go against the grain and celebrate freedom of expression and change. He works traditionally and favors the mix of pencils, charcoal, ink, acrylic and oil paint. He has created covers for a variety of creators internationally, and as of 2021 the focus of his creative endeavors has been his ongoing self-published graphic novel series “Metamorphosis” for which he has run two successful Kickstarter Crowdfunding campaigns (2021, 2024).

He has exhibited his works at Heartbeatink Gallery, M.A.D.S. Art gallery, Delirium.Athens, Chili Art Gallery & Time of Art Gallery (16 shows in Greece and Internationally). He has taken part in some of the most prominent comics and art festivals in Greece (Comicdom Con Athens, Athenscon, LAComics Festival, Fantasy Festival, PopCulture Festival, Platforms Project, CheapArt, Hobby Festival, Thrifticon) and in 2025 he participated in MCM London Comic Con. In October 2021 he held his first solo exhibition “Reflektions” and in April 2023 his second one titled “Hide & Seek”, A World in View at Delirium.Athens. In 2026 he held his first retrospective show, “JUST LIKE MIRRORS”.
